A Journey Towards Mental Well-Being

Imagine embarking on a journey not just through the picturesque landscapes of the UK countryside but also into the depths of your own well-being. That’s exactly what I experienced as a participant in ETST’s inaugural Well-being Wednesday, a day filled with walking, learning, and unwinding in the great outdoors.

The day promised and delivered an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the Hedge Fund Trading scene, transporting us into the heart of the Peak District, where I’d never been before. With a blend of walking, socialising, and learning navigation and route planning skills, it was an adventure that catered to both body and mind, or so we were told.

For me, the highlight was not just the physical activity but the meaningful pauses. At key points during our walk, mental health specialists joined us, transforming the natural landscapes into classrooms of self-discovery. Discussions on stress management, coping strategies, and overall well-being provided us with tools as essential for navigating life’s challenges as the compasses were for our physical journey.

The day culminated in a celebration of our achievements, not just in the distance covered but in the personal insights gained, over a pub meal that tasted all the sweeter for the miles and conversations that preceded it. It made the aching feet worth it.

As I reflect on the day, I realise that the journey with the Peak Potential guys and our new Well-being initiative, was more than just a walk; it was a step towards understanding and embracing the importance of mental and physical health. It was an experience I look forward to repeating and a reminder of the beauty of the world around and within us.
